Maintaining your bike or scooter
The correct maintentance of your vehicle will make it perform better, safer and prevent future problems. Firstly, we suggest that you read your user manual (supplied with the bike) carefully as it contains a lot of essential information about caring for and maintaining your new vehicle.
Here is a basic list of key areas to be aware of, all of which will be addressed in your manual:
Checking your oil - It is important ot know how to check your oil, which type of oil to use and remembering to check it regularly. Make sure when checking your oil that your bike is upright (not on the side stand). You should check your oil when the bike is cold. If you have been riding then you should wait 10 minutes before checking the oil level. Maintaining the oil is the most important thing to do to ensure the longevity of your vehicle. Freedom stocks a wide range of oils from mineral based to semi and fully synthetic oils from leading producers such as Honda, Motul, Repsol and Motorex. Your manual will advise you which oil is suitable for your bike.
What type of fuel to use? Your manual will indicate which type of fuel is suitable for your vehicle, this is very important to avoid running problems.
Servicing intervals - Regular motorcycle and scooter servicing will protect your investment. It will prevent your bike from breaking down unexpectedly. You can have peace of mind while riding and concentrate on having fun. A bike with a service history attracts a higher resale value. Your manual will tell you what your servciing intervals are but in general bikes and scooters have their first service after 1000kms and then bikes every 6000kms thereafter and scooters every 4000kms thereafter. Remember that servicing needs to carried out as scheduled by Honda to maintain your warranty. We offer servicing 6 days per week.
Keep your bike clean - We sell a cleaning solution designed specfically for bikes and scooters which, will not only keep your bike looking good now, but, also increase your resale value. We have washing liquid specfically designed for motorcycles which just sprays on and rinses off without damaging the more sensitive parts of your vehicle.
Lubing your chain (motorcycles only) - To ensure the maximum useable life from your chain and sprockets, it is very important to lube your chain every 1000kms. It is very easy and you can buy the right chain lube at Freedom for about $20 per can which will last a long time.
Tyre Pressures - Knowing the correct tyre pressures and checking them each time you get petrol. This ensures longer wear and better riding performance. Be aware of how to check your tyre wear and check your tyres regularly. We offer replacement tyres and fitment when required. Click here to see the brands of tyres we stock.
